Maths Collaboration
Reading Collaboration
Rooms 6, 7 and 8 started collaboration in reading. During our planning session we looked at how we could meet the needs of the children best. The children are grouped according to their reading levels and spread across the three rooms. The reading session begins with shared book and poems. We all read the same poem each week and have a different shared book for each teacher. We have discussions regularly to determine the students progress. We make the required changes based on the assessment Results. The students have really taken to the system we have in place.
Topic-Sustainability
This term our team worked together to plan and implement a series of lessons on our environment. We discussed the different ideas that we felt were important for our students to learn. We are staying in class groups and moving teachers. Each class is looking at a different aspect of sustainability from bees, trees, water pollution, climate change to recycling. We are challenging the children to think about where we are now and where they will be in the future - what will the world be like if we don't look after our planet?
My focus has been on water pollution. The children start by looking at the water cycle and how people can affect the quality of water during its cycle. We looked at the river behind our school and discussed the impact our rubbish at lunch time could affect the water. Where would our rubbish end up?
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch was introduced to the students. This impacted the way they thought about rubbish. Students began to share how the different ways they are now caring about our water. From turning the tap off while brushing to picking up rubbish in the street on the way to school. I am really enjoying the impact this subject has had on our students.
